Comment:

 Your patch is for perl5.8 but this is a base problem so we need a patch
 for base. I have seen the issue with mysql5, readline, cmake -- it seems
 to occur when trying to use reinplace on a file that has already had a
 patchfile applied to it, which is something that happens quite often.

 This all used to work in MacPorts 1.7.1, so I would like to know what
 revision caused the issue to occur, so that we can more closely examine
 that revision and why it had that effect, see what change the revision was
 trying to make, and see if there is another way to achieve that without
 causing the problem.
