Comment:

 I assume you unchecked the checkbox "UNIX Development Support" when you
 installed Xcode / iPhone SDK? If so, go back and install it with that
 option checked. The [http://guide.macports.org/#installing.xcode MacPorts
 installation instructions] specifically mention this necessity:

 Section 2.2.4:

  Ensure that the option for command line development, which is labeled
 Unix Development in the Xcode 3.x installer, is checked.
