 Thanks for your reply.

 My version of Xcode is 3.1.2

 I did as you recommended above. selfupdate worked but when I executed
 'sudo port upgrade outdated' I got an error when openvrml tried to
 compile, so I uninstalled it, and executed the command again. This time
 there were no warnings or errors.

 But.... when i tried to run gnuplot and xmgrace, I got the same error as
 before.
