 sudo port install snort

 After installation:
 The snort.conf sample file -> /opt/local/etc/snort/snort.conf.sample
 (rename to snort.conf)

 $ls -la /opt/local/etc/snort/

 -rwxr-xr-x   2 root  admin  855741 Sep 26 18:43 sid-msg.map

 -rwxr-xr-x   2 root  admin   53841 Sep 26 18:43 unicode.map

 Looks like the ui message just needs the extension name changed
