Use WikiFormatting, please, so your posts are legible. Fill in the Port
field, and Cc the port's maintainer.
The FTP site is working for me. Perhaps they had a temporary outage. Or
perhaps there is a network issue specific to where you are. Try again
later?
Perhaps you can locate the file on another server somewhere, and download
it and put it in /opt/local/var/macports/distfiles/sane-backends. If that
works, let us know where you downloaded it from; we could add that
location to the port.
The file is not on the distfiles mirrors because our distfiles mirrors
cannot mirror files served exclusively via FTP. Adding an existing HTTP
mirror of this file to the port would help this.
The file is not in the repository because it is not usual for distfiles to
be there; the repository locations are only checked as a last resort if
all other options fail, for the few ports that do have their distfiles in
the repository.
