Comment:

 "Do you want to proceed" implies that there is an interactive method by
 which MacPorts could solicit user input; no such method exists.

 Your wording also suggests that MacPorts will automatically rebuild
 poppler with the +qt4 and +quartz variants. It won't; no such capability
 exists in MacPorts. You must rebuild the port manually with those
 variants. That's what the message is telling you to do.

 The wording in the port now is consistent with similar wording in other
 ports.
