 Curious. In my experience the error "can't read" refers to an inability to
 access a MacPorts variable (the php5extension.extension_dir variable in
 this case), though its value seems to be printed right after it? What
 happens if you run this command yourself:
 {{{
 /opt/local/bin/php-config --extension-dir
 }}}
 Do you get the same error installing any other php5 module port?

 What version and variants of php5 are installed?
