 FYI `/opt/local/bin/play` works for me now that I've upgraded to OS
 10.6.5, MacPorts 1.9.2, sox 14.3.1_1.  Just played a WAV file with it
 several times without error.  No mention in the
 [http://sox.cvs.sourceforge.net/sox/sox/ChangeLog?revision=SOX_14_3_1&view=markup
 upstream change log] about a relevant fix for OS X in 14.3.1, so maybe
 it's still broken under Leopard?
