 I tried to apply this patch with no success on an iBook G4 running OSX
 10.5.8. Perhaps I applied the patch incorrectly...
 I DL'd the file and did as suggested in the documentation:

 cd
 /opt/local/var/macports/sources/rsync.macports.org/release/ports/math/atlas
 patch -p0 < atlas-mp-23349.diff
  port install atlas
