 If you are really running MacPorts 1.8.0 then you need to update to the
 latest version.

 Also, what is the output of the following:

 Actually, did you update your computer from an older Mac OS X version to
 10.6 with Macports installed? If so, did you follow the
 [http://trac.macports.org/wiki/Migration migration instructions]?
