 and here is my complete workaround:



 - get xsane 0.994 sources from http://www.xsane.org. 0.996 might work too,
 but I have not tested it yet.[[BR]]

 - get sane-backends-1.0.19.tar.gz from http://www.sane-
 project.org/source.html[[BR]]

 - deactivate sane-backends[[BR]]

 -compile sane-backends, install them in /usr/local, add /usr/local/lib to
 ld config, /usr/local/bin to path[[BR]]

 -compile and install xsane 0.994[[BR]]

 -change xsane and scanimage in /opt/local/bin to softlinks to
 /usr/local/bin/scanimage and /usr/local/bin/xsane[[BR]]
