 I'd like to note that Snow Leopard comes with perl 5.10:

 This is perl, v5.10.0 built for darwin-thread-multi-2level
 (with 2 registered patches, see perl -V for more detail)
 }}}

 It seems odd that MacPorts by default installs an older perl than the one
 that comes with the operating system.
