 I can confirm what Vince said a couple months ago: with QT3 disabled, it
 compiles fine as +universal. Because universal means different things to
 different people, I didn't want to change the universal variant, as an
 "x86 ppc" universal build should still work fine. I attached a patch that
 adds a variant which disables QT3, and building +universal+noqt3 works
 fine for me. If there is some better way to automagically determine what
 kind of universal build we're doing and disable QT3 only when necessary,
 that may be better but for now this is a working workaround.
