That's pretty crazy, I think there was even some discussion on the apr
mailing list where they had decided that that was the 'best' way to check
for that.

Can you provide a link to the bug here so I can track it?
I'll get to work testing apr and subversion with your patch and hopefully
it will fix the issues people are seeing.
