 compiler or we need to make sure we're UsingTheRightCompiler.

 Aha, there's the error:
 {{{
 $ gcc -v
 Using built-in specs.
 Target: i686-apple-darwin8
 Configured with: /var/tmp/gcc/gcc-5370~2/src/configure --disable-checking
 -enable-werror --prefix=/usr --mandir=/share/man --enable-
 languages=c,objc,c++,obj-c++ --program-transform-
 name=/^[cg][^.-]*$/s/$/-4.0/ --with-gxx-include-dir=/include/c++/4.0.0
 --with-slibdir=/usr/lib --build=powerpc-apple-darwin8 --with-arch=nocona
 --with-tune=generic --program-prefix= --host=i686-apple-darwin8
 --target=i686-apple-darwin8
 Thread model: posix
 gcc version 4.0.1 (Apple Computer, Inc. build 5370)
 }}}

 So I've got version 4.0, where 4.2 is trying to be called. Following the
 instructions on the UsingTheRightCompiler seem to reveal that this
 makefile isn't using the proper variables, right?

 So, it looks like this port's makefile needs a patch? Someone more skilled
 at that than I want to tackle that?
