Under 10.4, I think it wasn't doing anything special with regards to
launchd and contexts, although I'm not entirely sure since I can't tell
what version of screen (and what Apple patches) shipped with 10.4.
I'm using screen from MacPorts (ditto for sshd, from the openssh port).

Thanks. That's a bit complex. I wonder whether it is possible to change
the namespace, or to run an application in a different, existing context
(possibly with the help of an agent running in this context).
