 Patches are obviously welcome, and I probably didn't test on mac os 10.5.
 The lack of response when I was looking into the bug probably made me
 close it.

 I think adding a darwin_X variant with X corresponding to the right mac os
 version should work — not sure what the recommended means of os-version
 targeting is.
