Comment:

 I had tried updating this port in April but got stuck. Your idea to patch
 Makefile.PL was the answer. I updated the port in r70034 with several
 changes from your patch:

  * removed the homepage line; the default from the portgroup works fine
  * used a patchfile and reinplaces and ensured we use the current value of
 ${prefix} and don't assume /opt/local
  * made universal builds and non-default-buind_arch builds work right by
 plugging more of our values into Makefile.PL
