 I believe this has to do with the gcc version. Both ___sync_fetch_and_sub
 and ___sync_fetch_and_add don't seem to have existed before gcc 4.1. A
 similar issue is mentioned in
 http://lists.tangent.org/pipermail/libmemcached/2010-February/001053.html
