 Just had to reinstall 10.4 on my G4 (don't have 10.5) and ran into this
 issue.   ketchup at mopera.net gives a solution that works for me for smbd
 but produces a seg fault for nmbd.  This is the command that worked for me
 with nmbd:

 sudo install_name_too -change  bin/libtalloc.dylib.1
 /opt/local/lib/samba3/libtalloc.dylib -change  bin/libtdb.dylib.1
 /opt/local/lib/samba3/libtdb.dylib /opt/local/sbin/nmbd
