 Were you trying to use the universal variant? I am able to reproduce this
 problem when trying to use the universal variant to install gnome-libs.
 This won't work of course because its dependency gtk1 does not have a
 universal variant. The solution is to not use the universal variant when
 installing gnome-libs (and any other dependents of gtk1).

 If that's not it, please supply a full debug log showing the problem.
