Comment:

 Do you have the lua port installed? If so, it may be interfering. I've
 seen this with some other ports. Deactivate lua, clean gnuplot, try
 installing gnuplot again, and then, if desired, reactivate lua.

 sudo port install gnuplot
 sudo port activate lua
