Comment:

 Committed in r67906 with some changes:

  * used configure phase variables instead of overriding the configure
 phase
  * turned off the universal variant since we don't have a standard
 autoconf configure script here
  * installed the info file without the execute bit since it is not an
 executable program
  * some whitespace and formatting changes
