 Getting off-topic for this ticket, but I can report that wxpython 2.9.x
 does not seem to be working with Mayavi.  Therefore, current options are:
 vtk5+x11 and wxpython+gtk OR vtk5 with cocoa (-x11, -carbon) and pyqt4.

 Again, this ticket can be closed.
