Comment:

 Base needs to be able to run before any ports are installed, so linking it
 against anything in /opt/local/lib is incorrect. Your log doesn't show any
 evidence of an architecture mismatch. My /usr/lib/libreadline.dylib
 doesn't contain a rl_username_completion_function symbol either, yet
 MacPorts builds fine. Removing the /usr/lib/libreadline.dylib link is a
 bad idea and done at your own risk. We can't do anything about headers
 from /usr/local/include being used because gcc is hardcoded to look there.
