These are astronomically high user and group numbers. For comparison, the
first user account created on Mac OS X has the user number 501. Also,
usually MacPorts outputs the user and group names here (e.g. "root" and
"admin"), not numbers. Do you have any explanation for why MacPorts is
using these high numbers instead? Do these numbers mean anything to you?
What is the value of the "macportsuser" setting in your macports.conf? Did
you install this MacPorts from source, and if so, what if anything did you
supply for the configure arguments --with-install-user, --with-install-
group, --with-macports-user? How many user accounts are on this computer?
Is there a network account server involved? Anything else unusual about
this system that you can tell us? Has selfupdate ever worked before?
