 OK, I see.

 So - I have removed all the Qt related parts from /Library/Frameworks/ as
 described above. I have uninstalled & cleaned the lprof and tried to
 install it ...

 ... AND IT WORKED !!!  - and it also runs !!!

 thank you very much Michael & Bernard. Now I can finally try to produce a
 calibration file for my Microtek F1 (I have had bad luck with SilverFast
 so far).
