Comment:

 I attached a patch to fix this problem. The problem is they were
 overwriting the CFLAGS in their configure script, so I changed it to
 append to the values we're already passing in. I removed -O2 from their
 appended flags since -O2 is already among the flags we pass in.

 The port should also be updated, but that is a matter for a separate
 ticket (#27417).
