 Well, to actually be able to do updates like this on your own system you
 would need to create your own macports tree following section 4.6 of the
 Guide.
 If that is set up correctly on your system you can directly modify your
 local Portfile, run portindex as described and your "port" command will
 from now on consider your Portfile version as the one to depend on.

 (No, I am not laughing, since I started - like you - also from scratch
 myself half a year ago.)
