 I also ran into this same problem on my 10.4 system.

 I was eventually able to get [http://rvm.beginrescueend.com/ RVM] to build
 1.9.2 by “backporting” [http://svn.ruby-lang.org/cgi-
 bin/viewvc.cgi?view=rev&sortby=rev&sortdir=down&revision=28709 changeset
 28709] from Ruby’s SVN repository.
