 Someone asked about this on the macports-users list so I went ahead and
 pulled a patch in for this from a Debian bug:

 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=573221

 I also rev-bumped the Portfile and added the patch into the 'patchfiles'
 directive.
