Comment(by decibel@…):

 decibel at workbook.1[15:22]~/p4/db/bin:7%grep build_arch
 /opt/local/etc/macports/macports.conf
 decibel at workbook.1[15:23]~/p4/db/bin:8%perl -e "require XML::Parser"
 Can't locate XML/Parser.pm in @INC (@INC contains:
 /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.9/darwin-2level
 /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.9 /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8

 /opt/local/lib/perl5/5.8.9 .) at -e line 1.
 decibel at workbook.1[15:25]~/p4/db/bin:11%port installed p5\*xml\*
 The following ports are currently installed:
   p5-xml-parser @2.36_0 (active)
   p5-xml-xpath @1.13_0 (active)
 decibel at workbook.1[15:25]~/p4/db/bin:12%

 Here's the weird part:

 decibel at workbook.1[7:26]~/p4/db/bin:20%sudo port upgrade -f p5-xml-parser
 decibel at workbook.1[7:27]~/p4/db/bin:21%

 I thought that should force the upgrade no matter what.

 I forced the uninstall of p5-xml-parser and then reinstalled. After that I
 was able to build successfully.
