I have followed your suggestion but unfortunately (or fortunately!) the
disk seems healthy..
this is the log generated by SMART Reporter:

and as far as I can understand it sounds negative about errors. Right?
I forgot to say that the Mac has been newly re-installed three days ago
because we upgraded to Snow leopard and we took the occasion for some
"season cleaning"...
If you have any further suggestion I will be happy to try it..
