 My (development grade) Sphinx port has a libstemmer variant
 http://github.com/rodneyrehm/MacPorts/blob/master/textproc/sphinx/Portfile
 - if you're still interested.

 I got my ports working with 1.10-beta only. That's why I did not yet
 supply the patch to sphinx and the sphinx-client and php5-sphinx ports.
