 Error when installing varnish follows. Solution for me was:
 % sudo port install pcre

 % sudo port install varnish
 --->  Configuring varnish
 Error: Target org.macports.configure returned: configure failure: shell
 command failed (see log for details)
 Log for varnish is at:
 /opt/local/var/macports/logs/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_ports_www_varnish/main.log

 % cd

 % sudo ./configure --prefix=/opt/local
 .....many checking for (etc) removed...

 configure: error: Package requirements (libpcre) were not met:

 No package 'libpcre' found

 Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
 installed software in a non-standard prefix.

 Alternatively, you may set the environment variables PCRE_CFLAGS
 and PCRE_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
 See the pkg-config man page for more details.
