 Just noticed your attachment three months ago with comment
 "/opt/local/etc/xml/catalog from a system that does not exhibit the
 problem". I would have attached mine but without more context or an
 explicit request I unfortunately didn't read between the lines. Hopefully
 someone who hasn't yet --forced their way out of this can provide their
 catalog file.
