 The directory is for `scipy-0.9.0` for me:

 $ sudo port extract py26-scipy
 --->  Fetching py26-scipy
 --->  Verifying checksum(s) for py26-scipy
 --->  Extracting py26-scipy
 $ cd `port dir py26-scipy`/work
 $ ls
 scipy-0.9.0
 $
 }}}

 try cleaning, i.e. `sudo port clean py26-scipy`, and then try installing
 again.
