 "C compiler cannot create executables" means [wiki:FAQ#missingxcode Xcode
 is not installed correctly]. Note that downloading Xcode from the App
 Store only places the Xcode installer into the Applications folder; you
 still need to run that installer in order to actually install Xcode. So
 please (re-)install Xcode, then clean the port ("sudo port clean expat")
 and try again. If that does not help and you get the same message, attach
 the config.log so we can see what happened.
