 Just to follow up with this.  I've just installed the latest stable build
 of xcircuit (3.7.26) from the source on
 http://opencircuitdesign.com/xcircuit/ using the options to build with the
 macports installed versions of tcl and tk and it seems to be stable
 (though it looks a little different).  So it's nothing intrinsically wrong
 with tcl/tk under Lion but maybe something to do with the way that the
 older version of xcircuit (which was working before I installed Lion)
 works with wish.
