Comment:

 It looks like the race condition matches the described behavior, though
 I've not seen it happen personally. I'll bump the port version to the
 newest 1.7.x release in a minute and test it out.

 I'm hesitant to bump it to the 1.8.x series without much more testing than
 I can afford right now.
