 I encountered the same problem with +g95, which means that the choice of
 the fortran compiler is not an issue. I was able to successfully complete
 the build process with

 {{{
 $ sudo port -d install openmpi +g95 use_parallel_build=no
 }}}

 With the patch I was able to build +gcc44 (default_variants).
