 Thank you for your help. I'm a bit out of my league here, but: I tried
 adding '-march=i386 -m32' to the *FLAGS environment variables, and then
 re-running:

 cd
 "/opt/local/var/macports/build/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_ports_perl_p5
 -svn-simple/work/SVN-Simple-0.28" && /opt/local/bin/perl Makefile.PL
 INSTALLDIRS=vendor
 }}}

 No luck, same error.
