 That's really odd. "which" is indeed showing the Macports version of
 python, but version 2.6.1 is Apple's version, not Macports. So when you
 run the "python" command, you are getting Apple's python. All that said,
 none of this helps debug how to properly compile root, but this is clearly
 a difference between our systems.
