 Upgrading this nomaintainer port to the most current release is not
 trivial due to an upstream change that makes use of direct input/output
 function "O_DIRECT" which is not present in OS X.
 The relevant upstream commit appears to be

 If this problem can be solved so that the current release version of
 e2fsprogs works on OS X, we should probably submit our patches to the
 upstream maintainer, Theodore Ts'o.
