 > I am not maintaining the "py26-openbabel" package but that probably
needs updating. Would it be a good idea to have the python module as a
variant in "openbabel"? Not quite sure how to do that, so help would in
 that case be needed.

Integrating the python module would simplify some things (the biggest
downside would be if someone installs openbabel then later wants the
python module, they'd have to rebuild all of openbabel to get a different
 variant set).

The best way to do it would be to add variants for +python26 and (assuming
it works with 2.7 as well) +python27, since 2.6 is now the older 2.x
stable in favor of 2.7 but both are still used quite a bit in MacPorts.

See the [browser:trunk/dports/aqua/LyX/Portfile LyX Portfile] and
 [browser:trunk/dports/devel/git-core/Portfile git-core Portfile] for a
 couple of examples.
