 I guess this is getting off topic for this bug report, but was the "old"
 stable atlas actually slower than having no atlas at all for new
 processors?  If so, that's pretty terrible... though I'm not sure if the
 best idea in that case is to run a devel snapshot, maybe just not using
 atlas would be better.  How can I easily test atlas with macports software
 to compare atlas vs no-atlas anyway?
