Nearly the same thing happening for me. But instead of getting a segfault
I'm getting this very strange message:

Rosetta? python.exe? WTF is going on? I'm attempting to install the
universal variant. Macports.conf has i386 and x86_64 for the universal
archs... don't know where the ppc is coming from.
