 How do we apply the patch file?  After downloading it (and uncompressing),
 I type

 tar tvf patch-2.21.tar
 }}}

 to list the contents of the tar file, but I get the error message:

 tar: Unrecognized archive format: Inappropriate file type or format
 tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors.
 }}}
