Comment:

 If just removing and reinstalling gawk fixed the issue, then it's not the
 same as in this ticket, which is about a gettext libintl library that got
 corrupted somehow.

 Since we haven't heard from the reporter in half a year, I'm going to
 assume he got it working by rebuilding gettext.
