 I wasn't aware of "port select" when I submitted the patch. Since becoming
 aware I search macports but not found any reference to its functionality.
 I could only find information when executing "port help select".

 I've just check it works with maven, so I guess my port can be deleted and
 the maven2 and maven3 ports be updated to use the preferred method.

 Shall I raise a delete maven_select port request, or just reopen this
 ticket?

 I also tried port select with python but it failed to switch.
